What Are Your Priorities Going Into 2021? You Make The Call

According to a survey of 300 business leaders, workplace safety is being emphasized more than any other workplace consideration. Employee health and wellbeing has become the most important priority for organizations amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Previously, top priorities for organizations were talent acquisition and professional development. However, the pandemic and adapting to state and local COVID-19 safety mandates has had businesses put employee health first. Survey results revealed 36 percent of respondents said ensuring a safe workplace during the pandemic will be the most challenging issue in the next year. Offering employees competitive compensation and benefits packages was rated the second most challenging issue, followed by professional development, talent acquisition, and maintaining regulatory compliance.

As vaccines become available for more workers in the U.S. businesses are looking to reopen their workplaces and begin the adjustment to the long-term impact of the pandemic. Keeping employees engaged and productive in 2021 has become a "much higher priority" for employers, more than half of whom stated they are more aware of employee stress levels than before the pandemic. Business leaders are also looking to make employee benefits more accessible and affordable as workers are facing the physical, mental, and financial tolls brought on by the pandemic. "Workplace Safety Is The Top Priority For Business Leaders in 2021" (Feb. 11, 2021).

So, the question for our readers is: What are your priorities going into 2021?

Please take the poll. Here is an opinion of one of the McCalmon editorial staff:

Jack McCalmon, Esq.

I also agree that employee health and wellness is the most important for 2021. Health and wellness includes protecting against infection, but also mental health and wellness as we emerge from the lockdowns and start to travel and meet person-to-person. Also important is establishing and reinforcing policies, procedures, and standards for employee health and wellness in 2021 and improving employee effectiveness from home or at the office.
